Bat flying

Bats are stereotyped as being aggressive to humans. But is that correct? Sometimes they are shown as being cute, while other times they look like they are going to attack. The real question is, are bats aggressive to humans? Bats are interesting mammals, and they are the only mammal who can fly. Because of this, it is normal to be intrigued with them.

Bats and Humans

Bats are not normally aggressive towards humans. Bats do try and stay away from all human contact specifically in bigger cities like Boston, MA and it’s surrounding areas. However, if they do become provoked by you or something in their surroundings, they can become aggressive. If you do have bats around you or your home frequently, it is best to do something because of the fact that bats do carry rabies. Rabies is deadly, and not something you can easily identify.  Bats also help control our insect population, and because they eat so many different types of insects, they can also carry parasites and other things that put your health at risk. Even though rabies isn’t directly linked to a bad becoming aggressive, it is something to be cautious of.

While bats aren’t directly going to be aggressive, they can get aggressive if they are provoked. Since that is the case, it is important to teach young children to be cautious with and around them if they are seen. If you see a bat, the best thing to do is to get away so that you do not accidentally provoke the bat to attack or to get aggressive, and if you need, get professional help with bat removal.

If there is ever a situation where you would need to have contact with bats, it’s important to protect yourself. Wearing protective clothing, like long sleeves and thick gloves, and cover your skin. If the bat is indoors, the bat will normally try and get away from humans. To help the bat you can open all doors and windows to give them a clear exit path.

When to get professional help with bats

If at any point you see bats frequently, and aren’t sure how to safely get them away, that is a great time to get help with removing bats. While bats “normally” don’t pose a threat to humans, it is something that is not worth the risk.

You should always keep bats away from your home or where you send a lot of time. If you are unsure of what to do, feel free to give us a call at (781) 830-6080 or get in contact with us. We are highly skilled in bat removal and can save you the stress of what to do.
